Janry Chan
IT’S BORING.
School - It’s Boring.
Home - Boring.
What I did today - Boring.
My Museum - It’s Boring.
Life is full of mundane, plain, boring things, which might turn out to be extraordinarily fascinating, if you just try to understand them in a slightly different way. Did you know for example that a fart is actually a gas??? Today’s Museum Star Janry Chan found that out on YouTube.
Janry is in Year 3 and Year 3 is boring.
He lives with his Dad in Solihull after moving here from Hong Kong four years ago. His favourite lesson is Spanish, and his favourite words to say are ‘Arre Borriquito‘ even if he doesn’t quite know what it means in English.
When Janry is older he wants to be either a police man or a thief. If not... a jet flyer. This museum will not get to the bottom of that inner conflict but we imagine that police officers, thieves and even jet flyers think that their lives are boring too. After all, it is so easy to get bored of yourself.
But if you want to add some more excitement to your boring Saturday in Touchwood, then we encourage you to explore the Museum of Janry Chan.
He’d say “it’s boring”... but we don’t think that it, or he, is.
Hello,
Welcome to my museum, and bye!
This museum is closed.
Do you wanna come in? This is the Museum of Me. Come in if you like, it’s about me.
Duh-uuhh.
It’s about me. And my Dad, because he’s special to me.
So, come in, and explore my museum and go home.
And bye.

You Can Smile, Fun
Janry’s books, toys, and assorted items of F-U-N, fun.
Hong-Kong is like 14 hours on the plane from the airport in London.
It’s hot, I remember that. And it’s tiny - that’s what my Dad told me. I remember I had a lollipop, and I remember that... because lollipops are tasty.
I know one thing I remember, I remember there was a little playground very close to my Maa Maa (Grandma) and Je Je (Granddad)’s house. It had monkey bars with a ladder up, and a slide, and a round slide, and a tunnel. It was fun and I went trick or treating from there with my Dad.
Seeing family members is fun.
It is f-u-n.
F-U-N.
It is ‘you can smile, fun’.

When I Am Sad.
Marker pen on paper, plus chaos, by Janry Chan. 2025.
I’m going to draw a scribble because I don’t know what to do. Sometimes I feel sad when I don’t know what to do. So I’m just going to draw a scribble.
There. That’s my brain. I have meetings at 2.30pm on Tuesdays at school. I don’t know how to say this, but to talk about my feelings and stuff. I’ve done this exercise before so I already know my answers...
I am:
1. Fun
2. Kind
3. Helpful
And 4. A poo poo head.

1% Of My Brain.
Janry’s backpack - Pikachu - overflowing with things he has to do
I'm smarter than ever.
But I’m kind of using 1% of my brain.
It’s a myth that people only use 10% of their brain. That’s not true. I’m using 1%. I was using 100% but now I’m using 1%. Because I am too tired.
I talk about my feelings and stuff in my meetings at 2.30pm on Tuesdays at school - and now I have meetings about my Museum. We cycled in here today, and now... now,
I have to sell tickets to my Museum too.
I am sleepy!!!!
Note: we never asked Janry to sell tickets to his museum… it is a free to attend kinda thing.

Hong-Kong British Humour
Solihull’s new zoo, designed by Janry Chan
I went to the pantomime at The Core Library twice with Dad at Christmas.
They said in the pantomime Aladdin, at the Core Library - it said, “Solihull’s going to have a zoo”. And it said a really big zoo.
This is the reason why they said it:
[chuckles]
“...because they’re going to put a really big fence around Birmingham!!!”
[hysterical laughs]

Making Friends
Objects that bring Janry closer to his friends
Making friends is easy, you just go up to someone and say “Do you want to be my friend?” and they either say “yes” or they say “no”. Usually they say “yes”.
In my old school I was bullied and so I moved school after the first year. When I started there I came in pretty shy and I didn’t have any friends. But, after a short while others in my class came up to me in the playground and said “Do you want to be our friend?”.
It got a lot less lonely after that. I like having a big class at school because it means more opportunity for making friends. I’ve lost friends and it feels embarrassing because I don’t like it.
Do you want to be my friend?

ROBLOX
Tacos, helicopters, fun
Roblox. It’s fun. There’s a game called helicopter testing and there’s lots of silly helicopters. There’s even a reindeer one and a parachute one and even a taco one.
What you have to do in Roblox... I don’t know. There’s lots of games you can choose to play from. There’s some driving games, some train games, some playing games and some boat games. I’ve got two Roblox friends at the moment to be honest. I usually play Roblox with Sophie and I think I’m inviting her to my birthday party on a canal boat in April. It has to happen on a Sunday but my birthday is actually a Monday.
I can’t really speak to Sophie anymore on the online chat because you now need to be ‘an age’ to use it. Makes sense because you don’t want to talk to strangers.
Sophie’s not a stranger.

Fishing For Likes
Janry’s crabbing kit with all the essentials
I don’t watch TV but I watch YouTube - YouTube channels about fishing.
They catch cool fish and once this morning I watched YouTube and the fisherman caught their fish they always wanted to caught in their lives. I also watched a video tha said poo was a solid, wee was a liquid, and fart was a gas.
I don’t know why I got interested in watching fishing.
Crabbing!!! Yeah, Dad and I went crabbing in Cornwall but didn’t catch anything, so I decided to watch fishing to see what might work. Because they might eat the same thing.
I don’t think I’d want to be a YouTube celebrity, I just want to have fun on my own.
But I’m a celebrity now that I have a museum in Touchwood.

What Does ‘Family’ Mean?
How Janry remembers his family
Families live with you. Family means happiness - happiness and love.
Grandma and Grandad don’t live with me, or near me, they are 14 hours away from
London. But they are still family and they are getting older. I can’t go to visit them anymore.
My Grandma is a nice person because she loves me. She used to work very hard, making boxes - that's what my Dad said.
My Grandad has sharp hair and he looks like a kind old man. He is friendly.
Sometimes I miss my Dad when I’m at school. I don’t know why, I just do.
Because I’m away from him, and I miss him because I’m away from him.

Daddy
Janry and his dad’s home cooking and baking supplies
I love McDonalds... but Daddy doesn’t, he prefers Burger King.
Daddy’s cooking is tasty. He makes cakes and does a lot of Cantonese or Chinese food at home. He is my friend and he lives with me.
I made friends with someone at school the other day. He came up and gave me a hug because he could see I was sad. I was upset because I was missing my Dad.
I don’t know why.
I just was missing my Dad.

Sam
A shrine to Sam
He’s called Sam, because he has a name-tag, saying ‘Sam’ - he was named by his creator. Mum won him from the lucky draw.
I’ve had Sam since I was one years old. So I’ve had him for six years because I’m seven years. I didn’t have him from nought.
He makes me comfortable... and comfy. He’s a little white. We might need to wash him. He has a blue heart and blue trousers.
Sam is not smart, and he is always sleeping.
He’s my teddy.
